Hide Beetles - Omorgus

Hide Beetles - Omorgus
Mescalero Sands, west of Caprock, Chaves County, New Mexico, USA
May 6, 2006
Size: 16.4 mm
Several of these Omorgus beetles were feeding on what seemed to be coyote scat (long, cylindrical, mostly fur).

I believe I photographed this same species in the sandhills of Texas, but this time I got some more detailed photos, which I am also posting.

Clean!
Those are absolutely the cleanest hide beetles I've seen.

I agree
I agree, cleaner than eastern Trogidae. Maybe the arid climate leads crud to dry out and flake off.
