Fritillary? (DBU592) - Asterocampa clyton - Female
Great Falls NP, Fairfax County, Virginia, USA

Think this is a fritillary, but couldn't match wing pattern with any in Audubon Guide. Found in open woods area not far from river. Approx size of Variegated I'd guess. Appreciate ID.

Tawny Emperor - Asterocampa clyton

I agree
Looks like a Tawny Emperor (Asterocampa clyton)

Thanks to you both
Think you're right; new to me. In sun, it's much more yellow than photo in Audubon or Kelly's insert, but markings agree.

Thanks.

Fred
