Rocky Lake, near Colville, Stevens County, Washington, USA

This was flying around wildflowers in a grassy field. Cows nearby. Lake approximately 1/2 mile away.

Gymnosoma
This is a Tachinid fly, genus Gymnosoma or something closely related. These flies are parasitic in other insects, and I think that true bugs are the host for this genus.
