Bethylid wasp - Pseudisobrachium prolongatum

Bethylid wasp - Pseudisobrachium prolongatum
Hudson, Hillsborough County, New Hampshire, USA
May 18, 2006
Size: 5 mm
Found under small log in mixed woods. I was sure it was a strange-looking ro*ve beetle, although there are multiple differences from its sidekick in this photo, which is a real ro*ve beetle.

Thank you, William.
Well, I've been fooled by bugs and mites that were beetle-like, but I never expected to be hoodwinked by a wasp ;-)

if you find any more of these would you let me know? by the way im going to peterborough, New Hampshire on july 25th

Sure,
but by more do you mean more species, more individuals, or both? Are you interested in acquiring them if I do? I think I still have the one I posted...

I am very interested in aquiring some(as many has you have), they remind me of tiphiid and velvet ants. I can trade californian insects if your interested

If it hasn't been eaten by something else, it's yours :-)
I don't collect insects, and much of the fun of my endeavor is finding them, so I'll pass on trading. I get out to California every few years and go beetle hunting on my visits.

how much would you like for them then? I visit my grand parents in New hampshire, so like collecting there.

No sale I'm afraid.
Our little friend seems to have been snack food for one of the beetles in the same container. If I do find another, you can have it on two conditions: 1. It is not so rare that it is much in demand by a university or museum; 2. You reimburse me for postage.

If it ever takes up too much time, I probably will sell them as a means of reducing the demand ;-)

they aren't rare, I just can't find them in california. my goal is to have a specimen every genus of hymenoptera. I like coleoptera has well, but I'm just addicted to wasps. thanks though. when I go out there to New hampshire would you like to go insect hunting?

Sure.
Let's do it!
