Uknown Fly - Orthonevra nitida - male

Uknown Fly - Orthonevra nitida - Male
Durham, Durham County, North Carolina, USA
June 10, 2011
Size: approx. 5mm
Was photoing elderberry and saw this fly on the edge of a leaf. The eye pattern is what struck me. It was shot with a flash directly behind the lens so perhaps this is the "eyeshine" of the fly.

No mistaking those eyes!

According to the Guide, the eye markings are unique in the East.

That was quick.
I guess I won't forget this one, since there's only one here in the east. Thanks.
