It is believed the yellowish tan coloration of the young helps them blend in with grasses, as is the case with specimens from Flat Island in Lake County, FL. for example.

This local population (20 immature specimens observed in a 20 - 30 sq. ft. area; none observed outside this area) does not occur on grasses however, and is found in close proximity to the 'orange' sugar sand on small plants.
