Large Unidentified Spider - Dolomedes tenebrosus

Large Unidentified Spider - Dolomedes tenebrosus
Hendersonville, Henderson County, North Carolina, USA
June 21, 2011
Size: See photo with ruler
My husband spied this on the floor of his workshop this morning. After taking several photographs, I released it outside under a bush. We have never seen such a large spider.

Moved
Moved from ID Request. Yes I think the ID of D. tenebrosus is correct. They are large but harmless, so it's nice you released it unharmed.

Your ID of my Dolomedes tenebrosus
Thank you - I never kill a photo op! :-) I find insects infinitely fascinating and beautifully designed.

fishing spider
this looks like a fishing spider in the genus Dolomedes, perhaps Dolomedes tenebrosus. i found one at a camp in an outhouse once

Thank you, "Mantisboy"...
for nailing the ID on my Dolomedes tenebrosus.

Is it an orb weaver of some sort?
Does this spider fall under : Arachnids (Arachnida) » Spiders (Araneae) » True Spiders (Araneomorphae) » Entelegynes » Orb Weavers (Araneidae)...?
