Bright green caterpillar (now orange backed) - Pachylia ficus

Bright green caterpillar (now orange backed) - Pachylia ficus
Boca Raton, West Palm Beach County, Florida, USA
May 18, 2006
Size: Over 3 inches long
UPDATE: After eating up a bunch of leaves, the caterpillar turned from all light green to this color combination overnight. Later on Friday it buried itself in the sand at the bottom of the terrarium. I assume it has gone into chrystalis.

I used to have on of these, then set it free ^^

Nice, This will make a great series
You may want to dig up the pupa after several days and get a picture of that too. Can't wait to see the adult!

Me neither!
Be very gentle with that pupa!

Interesting that even the face changes color prior to pupation.

Nice find, J & J!
that site is a great resource for Sphingids that I had forgotten about.

I'm moving these great images to the guide - I hope we get a follow-up with an adult image, too.

YES!
That would be the one. Thank you so much for the ID!
