Vetch Looper Moth ? - Caenurgina erechtea

Vetch Looper Moth ? - Caenurgina erechtea
Oliver, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, Canada
May 5, 2006
Matched it to Caenurgia chloropha, but it is an eastern species. Need ID please.

I agree with Jan
The AM line curves outward near the inner margin, as in Caenurgina erechtea. The Vetch Looper (Caenurgia chloropha) occurs in the southeastern states and is not listed on the Moths of Canada site.

Moved from Moths to Forage Looper page.

Caenurgina erechtea (Hodges' # 8739)
That is Caenurgina erechtea, not Caenurgia chloropha. The antemedial line of the forewing of Caenurgia chloropha is concave toward the inner margin of wing. Caenurgina erechtea is a very variable species and females with almost uniformly brown forewings as this one on the photo are common.

8733 - Caenurgina chloropha (female)
Identified by Gary Anweiler at Strickland Entomological Museum, Edmonton, AB. A goodly percentage of moths from your area are transcanadian in distribution.

Thank you
