Termites?! - Willowsia buski

Termites?! - Willowsia buski
Midvale, Salt Lake County, Utah, USA
June 25, 2011
Size: SMALL - maybe 1/64 inch
These very small insects were discovered at night in a home that I'm looking to buy. They're small enough that they're hard to examine with the naked eye, which made them difficult to take pictures of. They were more active at night and I noticed them in two different colors.
Thank you for any help!

Willowsia buski
A typical domestic springtail.

An excellent...
source of information about these little creatures can be found here..

Oh and.....
thank you for the link to all of that info!

You're Welcome!
I find that they like to frequent dark, damp places. I use strips of tree bark or even pieces of scrap lumber placed in the leaf litter and left there for a few weeks. Look underneath them and find a small universe of Collembola, mites and other small creatures. You take some good images of these little critters, hopefully you can contribute them to Bug Guide in the future.

Good luck!

How ironic
After this springtail was graciously identified by Dorothy E. Pugh, I started looking around for other Collembola pictures. Ironically, I was randomly admiring your Collembola when you posted your comment. My jaw drops at your images. Simply amazing.

Springtails (Collembola subclass)
They're elongate, which could make the ID more specific.

Wow
I'm so impressed with the wealth of knowledge that this community holds. Thank you very much!

You're very welcome!
