Philothermus glabriculus? - Philothermus glabriculus

Philothermus glabriculus? - Philothermus glabriculus
Nashua, Hillsborough County, New Hampshire, USA
May 1, 2006
I found a bunch of little beetles under the bark of a downed pine about 2 ft. in diameter and was sure I had found Cor*ticeus sp., which I knew Don Chandler wanted. After shooting some pix, including this one, I pickled them and evetually sent them to Don. He now informs me that the vial "had a good number of Philothermus glabriculus and one Thoraco*phorus, not a single Corti*ceus." (Asterisks added so the site's search function doesn't show this image when those names are searched for.)

I can now see in this image that the body is not elongate enough for Cort*iceus.

Cerylonidae: Philothermus glabriculus
Indeed.
