The second of two of these unusual ambush bugs to be seen in our backyard gardens during the spring of 2005.

Moved to guide
I wrote a guide for Macrocephalus and placed your photos there. There is not a lot of information on this genus. This is likely Macrocephalus prehensilis = Lophoscutus prehensilis, size given as 5-6 mm, and ranges west to Texas (1). It is hard to say--there are very few photos of this genus around--I am just looking at the description and the stated range. Macrocephalus cimicoides is similar, but larger, 9-11 mm, with stronger ridges on pronotum, also found in Texas, according to Slater (1)
