Never seen a horse fly like this one before! Nice find!

There's a similar image at
Tabanus stygius, in the guide here, but it's from Florida. We certainly don't know if it is the same species, but Tony Thomas really knows these guys and he may tell you.

 
Western Horse Fly
similar to stygius but this is T. punctifer; the 1st female for the guide. Moved.
