Today the egg case gave way. And now I have hundreds of widows.

How did the adult respond to your approach to her spiderlings? Does she guard them as she guards the egg itself?

 
Widow mother
Stays hidden during the day behind the gutter. While the spiderlings are out in the web matrix all day. I have not touched the webbing. So maybe she would rush out to their rescue but I haven't pushed her. She is the largest Widow I have ever seen in my section of the country.
