Size: small grain of sand
So tiny you can barely see them. Smaller than this period. I had to take pictures through a microscope lens. They were on my dad's skin in several places on his body, and they bit him.

I'm gonna say it's a bird mit
I'm gonna say it's a bird mite, Ornithonyssus sp. Was he near a place which had a lot of birds or a nest?

On a farm. We have plenty of birds around. I guess he could have picked it up from the starlings or barn swallows in the barn.
