Giant Ichneumon Wasp - Megarhyssa atrata - Female
Shenandoah National Park, Virginia, USA

Size: Approx. 2" - 2.5"
There were at least 6 or 7 of these wasps depositing eggs on the same tree stump. I also saw a male of this species but I was unable to photograph it.
