mystery beetle larva
It looks very firefly-like but I suspect it is a larva in a closely related family. I have never seen one like this and would sure like to see it live! Did it glow or did you note any light organs on the end segments of ventral side? I hope someone figures this one out!

Image Added
I have no other images and no further information to share but I did add a blow up of the head. In it, I can see the right antenna and the what looks like a sliver of the right jaw. I'm sorry that I did not think more of this fellow when I found it. I will know better next time.

am changing my mind about this one, it correlates to #390688, and I can see the mandibles on that one, so it's a lampyrid...don't know which, very puzzling...these larvae need to make it into major collection houses like USNM or DPI Gainesville or Calif Acad Sciences so that we can borrow and study them...drop in alcohol, include label with date and location and donate....

neat... thanks, colleagues!!

looks like a lycid, maybe Lygistopterus, but don't know...it's pubescent and very broad/stout anteriorly...just don't know...try rearing it out or at least look around for adults in that area as a clue to what it could be...it's definitely unknown to science
