clicker - Megapenthes insignis

clicker - Megapenthes insignis
Garfield County, Oklahoma, USA
July 10, 2007
Size: 12 mm
Tarsi not lobed, antennomere 2 very short.

Moved
Moved from Click Beetles.

Hmmmmm
nothing jumps out at me, especially since you said the tarsi are not lobed. It could be something in the Megapenthes insignis-group, but they are usually much darker (other Megapenthes have both the 2nd and 3rd antennomere short and subequal).

pads
if it has tarsal pads, they are very small and inconspicuous; my attempt to key with American Beetles ended up as something in the Elaterini, but i doubt i got that right, lol

not Elaterini...
I dont think anything in Elaterini would look like this, at least where this was collected. If you keyed this out using AB, there are chances for hicups at couplet 46. :)

BTW
When I say 'insignis-group' I really mean insignis, proper. It is not a species group (yet) but the species currently called insignis may be a complex of a few closely-related species. I put this disclaimer here to avoid the creation of an 'insignis-group' taxon on BG. We can leave everything in insignis until it is formally revised :)

Of course, we have to first be sure that's what this is-LOL.
