Moved from Apiomerus. Essentially the only species of Apiomerus in California, according to the "Catalog of Heteroptera."

Thanks much, Eric.
Good to know!

Apiomerus.
This is indeed a species of Apiomerus. Interesting that it may be feeding mostly on carpenter ants.

This is the first I've seen
So I thought it was typical - on the ground, eating ants. Others at that location were doing the same.

A couple days later, I saw maybe eight in various places at another park. All were all off the ground, one in a morning glory.

That particular individual enticed me over by staying put as I approached. While I was changing lenses, a couple of bees landed - very, very briefly - on the flower, then scooted away. I continued to fumble with the macro lens, until OUCH! Large black ants were swarming all over me. Was I lured by an assassin to provide bait for his prey? All I know for sure is it didn't feel good. (BTW, I never did get the macro shot.)
