I think yes
According to Glassberg in 'Butterflies through Binoculars, The West,' Variable sometimes has "white, off-center spots on the abdomen" and "luminous yellow antennal clubs." Edith's, according to him, "always lack(s) white, off-center abdominal spots." The abdominal spots are pretty clear in this photo. The other Euphydryas, Gillette's, is not supposed to occur in CA.

There are four types of checkerspots in Orange County, and I appreciate your help defining this one. Wish I'd been able to get a shot with the wings spread.
