Metallic beetle - Carabus nemoralis
Harms Woods Forest Preserve, Glenview, Cook County, Illinois, USA
April 17, 2006
Size: ~22mm
We were hiking through an area of the oak-hickory woods where Jane had helped a team conduct a prescribed burn just a week or so earlier. Under a piece of wood we found this gorgeous metallic green and violet beetle.

ID'd as Carabus nemoralis.
