Strategus aloeus - female

Strategus aloeus - Female
Albany, Dougherty County, Georgia, USA
July 12, 2011
Size: 43 mm
I suspect this possibly may be a female Strategus aloeus.

The length of body was 43mm (measured several times) from tip of face to tip of abdomen.

Location was Albany, Georgia (coastal plain region) in a commercial parking lot. I put the beetle in an insect collection container. I photographed the individual and released it in a safer area with a lot of vegetation, shrubs, trees, etc.

Strategus aloeus
This species is typically larger and more elongated in appearance than are other related species here in the east.

Strategus aloeus (syn. julianus)

Thank you
Bill: Thanks a lot. I appreciate your time. Roy

You're welcome.
I miss seeing this species. As a kid, I used to find them in n. Florida, sw. Georgia, and s. Alabama - esp. around lights at night.

It doesn't seem to occur in the Carolinas.
