Thyreodon atricolor - Heteropelma datanae - female

Thyreodon atricolor - Heteropelma datanae - Female
Atco, Camden County, New Jersey, USA
July 14, 2011
Size: 25mm?
Not great image... She was trying to lay eggs on(or close to) recently hatched unknown caterpillars on oak leaf.

[Edit] I originally misplaced in Gnamptopelta obsidianator...
First image from New Jersey.

Moved from nigripes or tenuipes.

Since the basal tarsomere is over twice as long as the remaining tarsomeres, this can't be a species of Therion. This state is more typical of Heteropelma, which also has a species within this mimicry ring.

Moved from Therion.

Moved
Moved from Therion morio. Noting the hind legs lack the requisite yellow markings of T. morio. Might be one of the other dark species, as there are 2 candidates with darker, sort of brown legs.

Oops!
I thought I compared... Sorry for jumping to a conclusion!
And thank you for the correction and your help always, Bob!

Hmmm
I hadn't really looked at those larvae that were being attacked. The only known hosts of Thyreodon atricolor are sphingids. I don't think sphingid larvae would be that numerous on one leaf, whereas hosts of Therion morio include the fall webworm, and those larvae look like they could be that species or another another arctiine. The problem is, however, that the hind tibia looks solid black rather than banded with yellow as in Therion morio. However, the hind tarsus does look a bit yellowish, and that seems inconsistent with Thyreodon atricolor. Moreover, the front tibia is definitely yellow.
