two similar bees (bee mimic) on coreopsis - Toxomerus geminatus
Swanzey , Cheshire County, New Hampshire, USA
July 14, 2011
Sunny, bit of a breeze, semi-rural, home wildflower garden, early afternoon. These two insects look similar to me. Several of each were on coreopsis and giant purple hyssop with a third kind of insect, what looked to me like a bumblebee.

The two flies are indeed similar. Both are syrphids. This one is Toxomerus--maybe T. marginatus. I'm not sure about the other one.
