Dasymutilla vesta
This is D. vesta due to the sculpturing of the tegulae, overall habitus and distribution.

Were they unlinked accidentally?

Moved from Dasymutilla.

George, thanks for all the help getting this identified to species. Somehow they were unlinked, so I linked them all back together.

Anytime, Tom
Keep the Hymenoptera photos coming!

Dasymutilla sp.
Check the second sternite, and see if there is a pit filled with setae. If there is one, it is D. quadriguttata, if not, it's likely D. vesta since you found a female earlier.

It could also be D. bioculata -- I can't see enough of the second tergite.

Great photos!

Moved from Velvet Ants.

I'm not sure exactly what that pit should look like, so I posted the picture.

Ventral shot of the second segment?
Do you have a ventral shot of the second segment? If the pit is there you can't miss it.

semi ventral shot added
This is the best I have of the ventral segments, since I let the wasp go. Hope it shows the pit good enough.
