Yellow Jacket mimic fly - Milesia virginiensis
Dedham, Norfolk County, Massachusetts, USA

Size: about 2 cm
This large fly was discovered in my house at night by my stepdaughter who understandably thought it was a wasp. I caught it and my wife took this picture. We were unable to observe much of its natural behavior, but we guessed that it was a hoverfly.
