Tiny katydid...I think... - Oecanthus rileyi

Tiny katydid...I think... - Oecanthus rileyi
Soquel, Santa Cruz County, California, USA
July 18, 2011
This must be immature...it is very small. It was on some small white flowers. I was wondering is this going to be white as an adult? It really blended in on the flowers! The antennae are at least 3 times longer than the insect's body!

Moved
Moved from Long-horned Orthoptera. I'm guessing this is O. rileyi. The only other species it resembles is O. fultoni, but the white blotches on the abdomen seem smaller to me on fultoni.
Note the pale limbs, the pale antennae with black rings, the pale overall color. Looks to be a 2d stage (elevated thoracic segments)-nice shot despite the blurring from movement.

I have not yet had direct experience raising O. rileyi - thus if in the future this proves not to be O. rileyi, it will be moved.

Great addition to the guide.

Thanks for your kind words, and great detective...
Thanks for your kind words, and great detective work. I almost did not submit this do to the shaky images, and my knowledge of how hard these can be to ID!
