as Aphodius (Oscarinus) rusicola by microscopic examination of this specimen, now a photo-voucher. Thanks Tom.

Oscarinus rusicola
Again, Vasili got it right. He's going to put me out of my job. It could possibly be something else (much rare in that part of the US) which is subtly different. But it sure looks like Oscarinus rusicola to me!
