Hi. Euschistus (brown stink bug--pest) is a very good possibility: http://www.pbase.com/tmurray74/image/104985322
However, because of the distinctly pointed shoulders, I would lean more towards a Podisus species (spined soldier bug--good bug), (see http://www.ent.iastate.edu/soybeaninsects/ for a pic of one species), but not P. maculiventris. Also see: http://www.ces.ncsu.edu/chatham/ag/SustAg/predstinkbug.html for a pic of what looks like yours, but doesn't ID it.

This is definitely Euschistus
P. mac is the only one that has spines that pronounced for one thing, and you can tell this isn't a Podisus species because of how the wings come together and form a dark band. The final picture on that last link also looks to be a Euschistus species.

exactly my impression, too
the dorsal habitus & colors are quite typical for E3s, and the abdominal maculae may be very faint --but i'd rather run this one past DBT

Thanks, Andrew.
The ventral surface of this bug was white.
Don't know about the three dots.
(Thanks for the Halyomorpha, too. I should have
caught that one.)
