Moved
Moved from Eight-spotted Forester. Thanks for the ID, Richard.

Alypia wittfeldii (9316)
The moth in these photos is Alypia wittfeldii, Wittfeld's Harvester. Alypia octomaculata and Alypia wittfeldii are both pictured in Dr. Charles Covell's book, A Field Guide to the Moths of Eastern North America on Plate 15, figures 14 & 16.
First, Alypia wittfeldii is found throughout central and south Florida, while Alypia octomaculata is not in the peninsula of Florida. Second, Alypia wittfeldii has the narrower (elliptical) spots, while Alypia octomaculata has more rounded spots. Third, the two spots on the forewing of A. wittfeldii are parallel, while the inside spot of A. octomaculata is turned away (at least forty-five degrees)from the outside spot. This is easy to see by viewing Plate 15 in Dr. Covell's book.

Thank you!

Thanks! Someone had id it for me, but I'd forgotten.

I will move these to the guide
they are nice shots, and the first January reports for FL.

I call them leg-warmers!
They are the identifying characteristic of the Eight-Spotted Forester. Nice find!

By the way, if you can put a date on your images it will contribute to the data map in the guide.
