I'm sure this is something common as we often find them around the house, especially early in the morning near lights. I chilled this one for a whole day but it recovered and flew away after only two shots - sorry it's not a better image. It also makes a really loud rapid clicking noise - I'm not sure how.

Could it be Polyphylla cavifrons?
After browsing the species here, it seems like that's the best fit with the lack of lines and fuzzy appearance.

Unfortunately, I'm not very familiar with this genus. We'll have to wait for someone who knows this group, but hopefully we'll get a name at same point.
