Potter wasp - Symmorphus albomarginatus - female

Potter wasp - Symmorphus albomarginatus - Female
Fairfield, Wayne County, Illinois, USA
May 25, 2006
I think this is an Ancistrocerus. Enjoyed the behavior shot but not sure it can be ID'd.

Moved
Moved from Symmorphus.

Symmorphus albomarginatus, female (IL)
See comments elsewhere. Further north the species usually shows whitish instead of yellow markings.

Symmorphus sp. - female collecting mortar
Compare with picture nr 51505. This one species is at least very closely related, if not the same. ID to species level is very difficult without a close-up of the mesopleuron.
Three specimens of this Eumenine genus are now available: it would be a good thing that somebody with editor status (which I'm not) create a new page.
Symmorphus are tube dwellers just like most Ancistrocerus or Euodynerus sp. Therefore, they should be referred as "Mason Wasps", not "Potter Wasps" like Eumenes.

Thanks
for the effort. I knew the image was not good idea material but might be behavioral. And sorry - no mesopleuron shot. :) Maybe next time!

Eumenes sp.?
Looks like Eumenes.

Thanks
It looks like a possibility.
