Whatzit-covered bostrichid - Xylobiops basilaris

Whatzit-covered bostrichid - Xylobiops basilaris
Nashua, Hillsborough County, New Hampshire, USA
May 31, 2006
Size: 5.2 mm
On reviewing the 2 gigs of photos, I happened to notice the antennae and realized at once this had to be a bostrichid. I looked in bugguide and found images of this species had been previously posted by Matthew Roth and the Stricklands. I have several views, however, that might be useful, plus the mystery of the "white crud," which I now realized was tiny arthropods of some sort -- possibly mites, possibly something else.
