color palette click - Conoderus bellus
Nashua, Hillsborough County, New Hampshire, USA
May 31, 2006
Size: about 4.5mm
Tom Murray and I separately found and photographed this colorful tiny click beetle species last year, but this is the first one I've had come to my UV lights. I think I did a better job of capturing the colors this year too.

Moved
Moved from Conoderus.

Conoderus bellus?
Seems to closely fit description and drawing of Conoderus bellus (Say) from Dillon2 (also states "comes readily to light"). There's no Guide page currently, and I think I've seen these fellows myself in south Jersey, but I can't check until tonight. I also couldn't find any web images, but Nearctica does list Conoderus bellus.

Thank you, Tom.
I'll wait for your followup before moving.

C. bellus seems correct
While I don't have an example of one of these (south Jersey / SE Pennsylvanina), a check of Downie and Arnett doesn't conflict with anything described by Dillon2. I'm definitely not the Click speciallist some on the Guide have sought, but I'd be surprised if this one's not C. bellus.

After a quick scan through the unidentified Clicks, the only other C. bellus I saw was 36228

I'll move it then.
Thanks for the help, Tim. I thought the ones I posted last year were this same species:

oops
sorry, I must have overlooked these early. Clearly they are all C. bellus (although the upper left one would have been a good test if presented alone). Nice series on the varriation.
