Behavior explanation please - Lasius neoniger

Behavior explanation please - Lasius neoniger
near Sardinia, Brown County, Ohio, USA
July 30, 2011
There were at least four ants, each transporting an upright wing across the porch. Horseflies would run into the farmhouse picture window and lay stunned on the porch. I could not see any horseflies without wings but that is the evidence of wings where the ants had come from. What are the ants going to do with the wings once they get them to their destination. I should have tried to see where they were going once they went over the rim of the cement porch.

Moved from Ants.

Food
The ants will chew whatever little tissue remnants there are at the wing base and feed it to their larvae. The ant is a Lasius species.
