striped spider - Latrodectus hesperus

Size: smallish
I just found this out back with a honeybee in it's web. Once I got close it grabbed the bee and scrambled to where I could no longer see it. Looks like a black widow but I've never seen one with distinct stripes like this.

this one to me



perhaps the striking stripes are a sign of its youth?

Yes, I am sure that's it. I don't know why I just didn't think it was a black widow because I'd never seen one like it!
