Metallic fly - Holopyga ventralis

Metallic fly - Holopyga ventralis
Northern VA/ Blandy Experimental Farm near Winchester, Virginia, USA
July 28, 2004
In open field on Queen Anne's Lace, in bright sunshine which probably heightened the reflectivity. Not far from a wetland.

Blandy is an 80+ year old endownment to the University of VA with a world class conifer collection and 700+ acres of managed habitat.

Thanks for any help,
John

Cuckoo wasp
Definitely a cuckoo wasp in the family Chrysididae, and in the subfamily Elampinae. Could be Holopyga ventralis, a very common and widespread species, but need a specimen and key to know for certain.
