You don't have to but it helps, also it is a great satisfaction to see them in the proper place and to know your contribution. Let me know if you need help doing it, it isn't hard but it may be a bit confussing the first time.

what do you do if it's something you don't have a page for-just curious and I'm also never sure of the photo is good enough-should I assume it is and if you guys don't think so-you'll frass it?

I know I moved a few cos I put them on the wrong page. I think I know how to do it. (maybe-I'm not sure-they ended up in the right place though ^_^ )

If there is no page for that species you can request that one of the editors create a new one, like here: http://bugguide.net/node/view/55268.
If you feel that it is not worth saving you can mention that in the text, you can also move them to frass if you want to. In general, we keep many that are rather mediocre especially if there is no other image and only send to frass the real bad ones that we have many of.
