...for sure, and not in the genus Liopinus.

looks like Liopinus variegatus
"Variable coloration. Light/dark spots at rear (apex) of elytra are distinctive" (1) On your specifmen/photo they are a little less "distinctive", but I'm still fairly sure it's L. variegatus. see , just move to Guide page.

the only difference seems to be mine has a rough wing cover and the photo on bug guide seems smooth-but maybe it's just the angles of the photos. (and mine isn't nearly as good-the beetle would NOT sit still)
