caterpillar - August 3 - Epargyreus clarus

caterpillar - August 3 - Epargyreus clarus
Cross Plains, Dane County, Wisconsin, USA
August 3, 2011
I think this might be the caterpillar of a Silver-spotted Skipper (Epargyreus clarus). The tiny caterpillar was found on Amphicarpaea bracteata - American Hog Peanut. It had rolled up a section of leaf to form a little tent. I've also found an egg on the underside of one of the leaves and have found some smaller caterpillars (5mm) like this one but which have not yet formed the orange spots on the head. I think these caterpillars have quite a bit of eating and growing to do yet.
