Wasp - Scolia nobilitata

Wasp - Scolia nobilitata
Arlington, Northern, Virginia, USA
July 5, 2004
Yellow triangle on thorax, yellow shoulders, two of four yellow spots on abdomen visisble in this shot. Thick straight antennae. Looks like four wings.

Thanks for any help,
John

Moved--Scolia nobilitata
Moved from Campsomeris.

This one should have been moved some time ago--the small Scoliid with four abdominal spots is apparently Scolia nobilitata, not Campsomeris. There have been several discussions aout this--see other images of this species, for instance:

Scoliid wasp
Nice portrait of a male Campsomeris quadrimaculata, most likely. Within the range of that species anyway.

Scolia nobilitata?
Aha, looking at the size relative to the flowers, I wonder if this might not be Scolia nobilitata? It seems this wasp is rather small--compare other images in the guide that I believe are that species.
