WHITE CATERPILLAR - Lophocampa caryae

WHITE CATERPILLAR - Lophocampa caryae
Carmel, Putnam County, New York, USA
August 1, 2011
Size: 1 inch
It's hair looked like it was stiff(but I didn't touch it). It was moving quickly. I THINK the black things on it's back were standing upright. It was in the shade under our giant Maple tree in what is left of our lawn. (We've had a very hot, humid and almost rainless Spring and Summer 2011 here.) I have never seen anything quite like this caterpillar in my life.
