Dinner with Nemo - Carabus nemoralis - Nashua, Hillsborough County, New Hampshire, USA June 4, 2006
This shot was taken through my adapted photocopier lens (Yes, I'm a cheapskate.) at about 14x zoom. 22x was just too much to show anything recognizable. This lens distorts color like mad, and with a dark shot like this was there's only so much I can do in PhotoShop to make it look normal.
The clumps of dirt on Nemo's face bothered me so I tried to brush them off with an artist's paintbrush. Nemo stood stock still for this, mandibles still clamped on his prey, but when I finished, he let go and came at me working his mandibles as if to teach that impudent paintbrush a lesson about interrupting his dinner. Not finding the irksome brush in the immediate vicinity, he proceded to bury himself, thus ending the photo session.
