amber spider - Gea heptagon

amber spider - Gea heptagon
Springfield, Virginia, USA
August 6, 2004
This small amber-colored spider had a bright golden sheen on its abdomen. It was found making a web on an azalea. Any help in identifying is appreciated.

male Gea?
This reminds us of the Gea you have posted directly above this in the guide.

Argiope
I saw the same type of spider last year:

I assumed it was an argiope because of the way it held its legs. It was smaller than most, so I figured it was either a male or perhaps an immature one. Can anyone confirm?

It looks like
an adult male Gea. So is the other spider.

I can't confirm
but I sure can concur. Eric will undoubtedly confirm. Notice the spider has a knobby abdomen like some species of Argiope.

Thanks, Troy
It looks identical to the one you photographed.
