Need help identifying this wasp/hornet

Hey everyone,

The wasp/hornet/bee:
http://imageshack.us/f/189/img0175ha.jpg/

Only picture I got before he flew away, but I can't match the features to something in your library of bugs.

This bug was found in Cheyenne, Wyoming. It's black with orange stripes, with an orange and black stinger. Hard to tell with the picture but the bug is about 2 1/2 inches long.

Any information would be great, thanks!

It appears to be
a giant woodwasp (Urocerus gigas) , which can't sting, but is related to bees and wasps.

Thanks so much for the info.
