Could Well Be, Though...
...the colouring is a tad different than that of some individuals in photos I just had a look through. Probably just regional variance, however. The amount of 'highlight' colouring does seem to vary quite a bit on these characters. Following is a link to a page on the common true katydid that offers some recordings of their typical songs and some anatomical details to look for, although those vary too, it seems! http://buzz.ifas.ufl.edu/141a.htm

You might also want to try listening to the other two true katydids listed for Texas. Maybe you'll find that you've actually got two or three species yelling away in your trees just now!

Update--08 June 2006: Here's a coincidence! Just found some verrrry interesting photos posted by Tony Gallucci...check this one out! http://bugguide.net/node/view/56092

To me, this looks to be a better visual match to your own photo subject than any images I found of the Common True Katydid. I like the pretty gold 'detailing' on these insects...

Truncated True Katydid
This is a Truncated True Katydid (Paracyrtophyllus robustus). This is based on the coloration, what you can see of shape, and range.
