Bowl and Doily Spider - Frontinella pyramitela

Bowl and Doily Spider - Frontinella pyramitela
Berrien Springs, Berrien County, Michigan, USA
June 6, 2006
Hidden in tall grass, the web appears a tangled mess from above. Viewed from the side organization appears. A tangled maze of disorganized strands is mounded over a bowl-shaped web of sticky strands. I observed a leaf hopper (Latalus sps.) after he blundered into the maze. He was free to hop until he landed on the bowl. Several attempts did not free him, and worse, brought unwanted and deadly attention from the spider.
