Boneset wasp - Hyposoter - male

Boneset wasp - Hyposoter - Male
Butter Hill Wildlife Sanctuary, Pelham, Hampshire County, Massachusetts, USA
August 12, 2011
Size: ~6.5 mm
Emerged from a cocoon found attached to Eupatorium perfoliatum flowers. On one side of this tan-colored cocoon is the flattened exuvium of the host larva.

Probable host
I found this moth, which I believe to be Schinia trifascia, resting on boneset nearby.

Schinia larvae feed on flowers, as the host of this wasp was doing when it succumbed, and of the few lepidopteran species recorded here as feeding on Eupatorium perfoliatum, it seems most likely that Schinia trifascia would have been the host of this wasp. The bucculatricid, sesiid, and tortricid can certainly be ruled out, which leaves two geometrids and a lycaenid as the possible alternatives. Not sure if that helps any in identifying the wasp, but I thought it was worth mentioning.

My minds eye is suggesting that this may be Hyposoter synchlorae, which has been reared from Synchlora aerata, which, in turn, is known to feed on flowers of Eupatorium.
