Explanation of Names
Greek, pseudo, false, untrue + genus Saica Amyot & Serville, 1843. Named for the affinities to Saica.
Numbers
Two species in the New World, one of which occurs in the Nearctic.
Identification
Pseudosaica may be separated from Saica in having the process of the lower anterior pronotal angles subconical, the second antennomere subequal to one-third the length of the scape, the process of the male pygophore with a single erect barbless spine and the posterior margin of the seventh female sternite sloping ventrad.
Saica has the process of the lower anterior pronotal angle acute to subacute, the second antennomere subequal to one-half the length of the scape, the process of the male pygophore bifurcate, and the posterior margin of the seventh female sternite vertical to subvertical (Blinn, 1990, 1994, 2008).
Range
Known from United States, Panama, and Brazil (Gil-Santana & Marques, 2005). In the US, this species is known from Florida and Mississippi.
