Chrysopilus davisi - female

Chrysopilus davisi - Female
Roswell, Fulton County, Georgia, USA
June 7, 2006
Size: about a half inch
Rather tame. Let me get pretty much on top of it for the supermacro shot. Found at the Chattahoochee Nature Center, in the woods near the butterfly garden and pond.

Note: Not Golden-backed snipe fly.

Chrysopilus davisi
Thank you, John.

Snipe Fly
My first thought is a Snipe Fly (Rhagionidae) in the genus Chrysopilus. Abdomen seems chunkier than usual. Also, in many Chrysopilus species the abdomen is banded with a lighter color, but that is not invariable.

Thank you very much, Stephen. I've now changed the ID to Chrysopilus thoracicus and that common name.
